Are you ready for a change in your life? Do you wish that you can snap your fingers and your life will be satisfying (according to you)? Well we know that finger snapping doesn’t really work because life doesn’t really work that way and you probably can’t snap your fingers anyway :-). Ok I digress, but seriously, there is a way to get the change in your life but you have to be patient and enjoy the journey during the process.
Our lives are largely the result of our habits. Making intentional little changes will have a major impact on your quality of life. So why not choose to no longer be frustrated with your life and/or intimidated by the changes you might have to make. Here are some tips that will increase the likelihood of success:
- Patience is a virtue. When you take little actions over time, they will result in big impactful changes. Fifteen minutes of cardio per day isn’t likely to do much (visible progress), but it does make it easier to do 30 minutes of cardio per day in the future. Once you are doing an hour or more of cardio per day, you will likely start to see results. Making little changes such as described above are easier to implement and less intimidating. Little changes also help you overcome the mental hurdles that come with your decision to change. Do you realize that frustration tends to set in more when you are working too hard? Remember that it is much easier to be patient when you are doing a little bit at a time.
- Start small. You will know you’re starting small enough when you are able to complete the action without any mental resistance. Add a little each week until you are performing at a level that is effective. Small changes are less likely to trigger the brains defense mechanism since our brains are hard wired to resist change.
- Keep actions at a minimum. In other words, don’t try to change several things or add several new things to your life at one time. This will result in you feeling overwhelmed and being unable to stick it out long enough to see any results. The less a new action disrupts your current routine, the more likely you are to keep it up.
- Consistency is the key to everything. This doesn’t need any further explanation.
- Perfection is not necessary and impossible to achieve. Good luck if you think so. Daily progress in your ordinary actions yields extraordinary results.
There are some advantages to the little changes that you decide to make in your life. They are simple, quick, effective, fun and easy to do that will be profound overtime. It is not necessary to take drastic steps when you are making changes to move forward in a positive direction in your life. Your progress will be easy with a minimal amount of time and effort. Doesn’t that sound exciting?
If you have ever struggled to make major changes in your life by making drastic changes in your behavior, you already know how challenging that can be. Consider giving little changes a chance. Your compliance will increase and you’ll even enjoy the constant progress you’ll undoubtedly make along the way.
